The most coveted award of the ceremony is that for Best Picture. However an animated film is at a disadvantage since the acting involved is exclusively or at least primarily voice acting and certain branches of the Academy such as make-up and costume designers were not involved in the making. It is still technically possible for an animated film to be nominated and the winner of Best Picture but none have ever won despite how many truly amazing animated films there are.
